My New Journey: Breast Cancer “Plan of Attack ” *Update*

Prayer Really Works!

Yesterday, I got some terrific news, the second legion in my breast is benign! When I heard that news a wave of relief swept over me.

With this new news I now have decided to attack this cancer differently.

Originally I was going to be extremely aggressive and have a double bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery immediately afterwards. But now after talking with my doctor and with my plastic surgeon we can treat this cancer less radical.

I will now go forward with a lumpectomy which I will be having tomorrow. When you have a lumpectomy, basically only the the cancerous tissue and some normal tissue will be removed. I probably will be in the hospital for a day maybe two but I will be back to work on Monday.

I can always choose to have the mastectomy later but for right now this is the best plan to treat my breast cancer.

To  everyone who prayed, everyone who has called, emailed, texted Tweeted, Facebooked, and left messages on the comment boards, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I continue to gain strength from each and everyone of you.

What wonderful news! Prayer is not only ‘powerful’, it is also ‘empowering’ to know that you are being lifted up in prayer by so many. Prayer has been my lifeline since my diagnosis of a very rare and aggressive form of breast cancer this past October. I will certainly be praying for both you and your doctors tomorrow, as you undergo surgery. God bless you for sharing your story in such a raw and honest manner. You will undoubtably help many other women and men with your courageous outlook.

    JC,
Great news! I had my lumpectomy at Sibley in 2008. I had clear margins, however, the sentinal node tracer showed cancer in one lymph node, which meant 4 chemo treatments and 30 radiation treatments. I got through it and am still here today. I see my breast surgeon and oncologist every six months and so far, so good. The surgery was much easier than the treatments! You will be fine! Keeping you in prayer and sending positive thoughts your way!

    Love,
    Tracey

When I heard of your cancer, I stopped and immediately prayed for you. I asked God to give you what you needed mentally, physically and spiritually to beat this thing. I reminded him that he promised whatever we asked in his name it shall be given. I prayed a similar prayer when my ex-MIL told us she had cancer. Praise him for he alone is worthy.

  • Betty

JC, Hugs and Prayers go out for you. I am a six year survivor of on going stomach cancer.

You are in my prayers. Here’s a healing scripture you can quote daily.

    Psalm 103:1-5
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s

As a breast cancer survivor of almost 3 years, my prayers and positive thoughts are with you. IMine was discovered in a routine mammograph, was 2.5 (about the size of a pea) and was Stage 1, with NO lymph node invasion. I chose breast conservation with a lumpectomy and brachytheraphy with drug follow up. It was no walk in the park but the results were terrific. Good luck JC!

  • Carolyn Carey

JC, yes prayer changes things. I know your latest news is such a relief for you but regardless of it I know you would have come through just fine. Our prayers and thoughts will continue to be with you. Just keep praying and keep smiling.

  • Pam Holcomb

JC … As a breast cancer survivor (a year now!!), I know you are going to be okay. I had a lumpectomy, also … followed by chemo and radiation. I was at Stage 2, ER Positive, with nothing spreading to the lymph nodes. Now I am taking Tamoxifin and am doing great! I’ll be walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on May 5 and 6 for the first time with my daughter. Maybe next year you can join us!

    God’s blessings girl!!

    • Sally Masri

Congrats on your one year! I am currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and my family and I will be walking in the Avon Walk on May 5th & 6th too! I hope to meet up sometime during the walk. Our team name is Sally’s Dream Team. Blessings to you!!

So glad the surgery went well. Rest and get better.

  • Nina

    JC,
Now that your surgery is over, you will be able to move on with your life. I had the
same surgery in mid-February and the same nurses and surgeon took wonderful care
of me at Sibley, I recognize them from your photos.
I will be starting my radiation treatment this week and hopefully that should be all.

Take care and good luck, you are in good hands!

    J. C. I’ve been watching you since I was a girl. I admire you so much (in fact I was a B. J. major in school because I was inspired by you and Maureen Bunyan.). Anyway I know you are a fighter and a survivor, and I am already claiming your healing. I don’t mean to bring this up but I must as a testament to your tenacity and strength: I remember when channel 9 tried to fire you about 20 years ago ( more or less) but they had to bring you back because you or the people of the metro area were not having it. I love you and will always pray for you. With great admiration, Roxy Bryant.

  • Evelyn (Faucette) Bedjane

God bless you JC. I too was diagnosed in Oct 2012 with breast cancer. Yes, it was frightning. Then God spoke to me – reminding me that He promised to never leave or forsake me. From that day forward I had no doubt of His promise. I had a successful mastectomy Jan 9, 2012. Praise the Lord!! I don’t need radiatiion or chemotheraphy. I am being treated with a pill for the next five years. Hallelujah!! My God is awesome!! He takes care of all His children. So cast all your cares on Him. He’s just a prayer away. Stay “STRESS FREE”. That is VERY important! Avoid ALL negativity. My prayers are with you my sister.
