DC’s Top Techies Get A Fashion Makeover In Md.

WASHINGTON (JCHAYWARD.COM) — The third annual ‘Geek 2 Chic’ fashion event featured some of the capital region’s top techies at Bloomingdales in Chevy Chase, Md., on Wednesday.

The event highlighted 26 good looking and successful startup entrepreneurs or big company techies who work at a variety of venues from Facebook, Twitter, Uber, and Votifi to hin.ge, The Bullitt Agency, and Startup America.

The ‘geeks’ traded in their computers to walk the runway in a men’s fashion event showcasing exclusive brands in this season’s hottest trends, which raised funds for the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. NFTE is an organization that provides programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, and plan for successful futures in business. Since its inception in 1987, NFTE has helped 400,000 youths so far.

“NFTE gives underprivileged youth the skills they need to become entrepreneurs, and our models represent role models for the young people who take advantage of the NFTE program,” says Microsoft’s director of innovative engagement Mark Drapeau.

9News’ Kristen Berset mingled with a few of DC’s top techies including Uber’s Alex Priest and Bennett Richardson from hin.ge.

Uber,’s DC Community Manager, Alex Priest, told Berset he loves to ride his bike and chooses it over driving. This is comical since Uber is a private, on-demand car service taking D.C. by storm for just a bit more than cab prices. One would think he would use his company to his advantage and have a private driver.
