WASHINGTON (JCHAYWARD.COM) —D.C. resident, Suzy Mink, works at the Nature Conservancy, but in her spare time carves fantastic pumpkins. Mink says she started six years ago, and has become quite the artist through the years. Recently, Mink carved Redskins’ star Quarterback, RGIII and Nats’ Outfielder Bryce Harper, at home during Superstorm Sandy. Mink said it took her an hour to carve each pumpkin. (Wow!)
Mink’s secret to her pumpkin masterpieces? She designs the images on the computer, and then places them on the pumpkin to carve. To achieve the 3-dimensional look, Mink peels the skin off parts of the pumpkin, which helps the light come through. Mink also uses wood carving tools and small knives to perfect the pumpkins.
