PHOTOS: Solar-Powered Carousel Opens At The National Zoo

WASHINGTON (JCHAYWARD.COM) –Looking for something the whole family can enjoy? Visit the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in D.C. where one of the world’s only solar-powered carousels has recently opened.

The carousel made possible by the Speedwell Foundation, features 58 hand-carved and hand-painted animals and has a net-zero impact on the Zoo’s energy use.

Zoo officials say Pepco Energy Services donated and installed one hundred and sixty-two solar panels to power the Conservation Carousel, which is opened during regular Zoo hours.

Tickets for the Conservation Carousel are $3 with all proceeds to support animal care at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.

For more information about the Conservation Carousel visit the National Zoo’s website.
