WASHINGTON (JCHAYWARD.COM) — The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing has grown to $550 million “because of stronger-than-expected sales nationwide,” says Virginia Lottery’s John Hagerty.
This estimated jackpot is the largest in Powerball history.
Local Powerball players should keep in mind that the odds of winning are one in 175 million, but that there have been two Powerball jackpot wins in Maryland since it came to the state two years ago.
If a winning jackpot ticket is sold in Maryland, that retailer will receive $100,000 commission.
According to Lottery officials, if your ticket matches all six numbers in Wednesday’s drawing, the winner will have a choice to either take the full jackpot in 30 annual payments or choose a one-time cash value of $327 million before taxes.
