SILVER SPRING (WUSA) –Haven’t been taking your pup to the dog park in the past because there was a hefty permit fee?
Montgomery Parks announced on Thursday that it will discontinue collecting an annual $40 dog park permit fee for the use of its parks beginning January 2013.
The fee program was initiated in July 2010 to compensate for budget cuts; but the department has decided stop the fee and find another way to make up for the lost revenue.
“Dog parks are such an important resource to the residents of this county, and we regularly receive requests for more,” said Mary Bradford, Director of Montgomery County Department of Parks. “Our parks have come to serve as “backyards” for many residents as our county continues to urbanize. Dog owners should have a free, public place to play with and exercise their dogs.”
Due to a growing need, Montgomery Parks are currently looking for new sites to place dog parks.
