Arena Stage’s Molly Smith Organizes Gun-Control March In D.C.

WASHINGTON (JCHAYWARD.COM) –Just like countless others, Molly Smith, artistic director of Arena Stage, remembers exactly how she felt when she first heard the news of the shootings in Newtown, Conn.

Smith decided they needed to lead a march to get things rolling in Washington and bring to life the slogan “When we stand together, we stand a chance.”

March on Washington for Gun Control will take place on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

“This March on Washington is absolutely focused on legislative change,” said Smith.

The march is aligned with President Obama’s initiative on gun-control including reinstating the assault weapons ban, banning high-capacity ammunition magazines, requiring background checks, focusing on gun-safety training and outlawing bullets that shatter in the body.

The march begins at the Reflecting Pool on Third Street NW and ends by the Washington Monument.

The expected cost is $49,000 for a sound system, stage, first-aid tent, advertising, water and more. Smith believes they have almost half that at the moment with the march only days away.
