Area Schools Close Early Due To Winter Weather

WASHINGTON (WUSA) — The following schools will be closing early on Friday due to expected winter weather conditions hitting the DC area.

The forecast is calling for snow to start sometime after 2:00 p.m. and continue until late evening. Chance of precipitation is 90% with accumulating snow. Please continue to check the website for updates for the status of weekend activities.

  • Prince George’s County Schools will dismiss two hours early today.  All afternoon and evening activities are cancelled.
  • Montgomery County Public Schools will close two and one-half hours early. Students in morning pre-kindergarten programs and morning half-day Head Start will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon pre-kindergarten and other early childhood programs are canceled. All school activities also are canceled. Day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. A decision about community activities in school buildings has not been made.
  • Calvert County public schools will close two hours early today, and all after-school and evening activities are cancelled.
  • All Fairfax County public schools will close two hours early today.
  • Prince William County Schools will close 1 hour early today.
  • Frederick County Md. public schools will close 2 hours early today.
  • All Howard County public schools will close 1.5 hours early today.
  • All Fauquier County Public Schools will close early today. Secondary schools, except Marshall Middle, will dismiss at noon.  All elementary schools and Marshall Middle School will dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • All Anne Arundel County school-sponsored after-school activities scheduled for today, including evening middle school and high school classes, are cancelled. Activities scheduled for tomorrow, including SAT testing, will be held as scheduled unless further weather developments dictate otherwise.
  • DC Public Schools are closing as planned at 12:15 p.m. today.
