Rooker shared her personal experience with this type of health issue. She also gave wonderful tips on how to avoid and prevent them from occurring.

Rooker said women with certain conditions have a higher chance of developing this health issue:

1. women with certain inherited genetic disorders
2. women who take oral contraceptives
3. women had recent surgery or previous blood clots.

All three types of women should take the initiative to take better care of their bodies. They should drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. These two small steps can make a huge difference.

Today, award winning Chef Francesco Ricchi of Cesco Osteria brought a wonderful recipe for tiramisu that you can make at home! This dessert is one of my favorites. It was absolutely delicious! I cant wait to try it myself.

Tiramisu for Tweleve

Ingedients:

12 Eggs- Separated

35oz of Marsacapone cheese

12 tablespoons of sugar

1/2oz of Sambuca

4 sheets of gelatin

Savoiardi cookies or lady fingers

espresso (instant)

Preparation:

1. Separate eggs
2. Combine the egg yolks, sugar and gelatin previously dissolved in water then beat.
3. Add Sambuca and fold in Marscapone cheese. Work to a smooth consistency.
4. Firmly whip teh egg whitesand fold into the mix.
5. In a 2 inch deep pan add one layer of sponge cake and brush with espresso.
6. Add half of the mix on top of the cake then repeat step 5.
7. Sprinkle the top with Coca poweder to finish

AFTA, formally named Arts For The Aging is a wonderful and inspiring place to be. This place was founded about 25 years ago by the renowned sculptor and philanthropist  Lolo Sarnoff. Her mission is to bring art to older adults throughout the Washington, DC Metro area. In 1988, Lolo Sarnoff began her art classes for 15 seniors in a local medical day health center. Since then, AFTA has expanded to an entire faculty that have been trained to lead these wonderful workshops for the elderly. AFTA has reached about 500 older adults per year because of Lolo Sarnoff. I am glad to say that AFTA has been proven to enhance better health and the well being of our seniors in the DC Metropolitan area by research.

It is wonderful to know that I was asked to be a part of such a wonderful organization like AFTA. Art brings joy to the elderly, and spreading joy is exactly what AFTA is all about. Banana Peanut Butter Blueberry Smoothie

Banana Peanut Butter Blueberry Smoothie

Serving Size- 1

Ingredients

Blender

Banana, broken into two pieces

3 small handfuls of blueberries

1 tablespoon of peanut butter (I use Jif Natural Creamy Peanut Butter)

In the blender

1 Cup Organic Vanilla Silk Milk

(or regular milk) (Or count to 4 when pouring and you don’t even have to measure)

BLEND on ‘Smoothie’  until smooth!!

Each ingredient is added to your liking. Add crunchy peanut butter if you prefer or add more blue berries if you’d like!

I love Organic Vanilla Silk Milk. I think it makes cereal so much sweeter. If you haven’t had it, give it a try!

Japan was the host country inside the 2013 International Pavilion. His Excellency, Mr. Kenichiro Sasae, the Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. welcomed throngs of guests. The Embassy of Japan and the Maryland Jockey Club organized the Pavilion along with Longines.

To put the matter of breast cancer in to perspective, Acting Chief of the Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease Amari Pearson-Fields and DC Department of Health Senior Deputy Director Brenda Kelly shared the harsh statistics and the reality of how prevalent breast cancer is in DC. Because of the alarming facts of this disease, this event is very important to our community. Just as Mary Cheh said, “It takes a village to fight cancer.” DC Goes Pink emphasizes the importance of engaging and educating people about breast cancer from the root to the stem of the issue.

The DC Cancer Consortium is going to save lives and create a better and healthier DC. With the community’s help, we will one day element breast cancer from Washington, DC and maybe even the world.

Thank you DC Cancer Consortium for helping DC become a better place.
